Flax Art on Market Street in San Francisco is celebrating 72 years with Flax Fest, free demonstrations and seminars in the store through the end of October.
I will be painting live at Flax this Friday. I'll show how I work in oils on canvas paper, using photographs as a source. Canvas pad is like a pad of paper, but each sheet is primed canvas. I use stretched canvases all the time, but I like canvas paper because you can easily cut it down to the composition you like at any time. Also, stretched canvas has texture and some give, but canvas paper is smoother, and you're working on a rigid surface which makes the technique of "erasing" the paint easier.
